Captain Phillips Review

Image
There are very few actors who have the ability to make ordinary subjects very powerful by the sheer power of their histrionics. Tom Hanks is one such legendary actor. He is by far the most talented actors in the Hollywood History....He once again demonstrated that in his latest Captain Phillips..... Captain Phillips is a true story of a Somali Pirates Attack on a Commercial Cargo Ship and how the hijacked captain is rescued by US Navy..... While the story is not extraordinary, the way Tom Hanks plays the key role of the captain of the ship and displays the various emotions of the character is a treat to watch....The director of the movie has ensured the events are played as real as possible....The last 30 minutes of rescue operations were quite breathtaking.... However what steals the show is the last few scenes of Tom Hanks where he displays the emotions of a man who is under trauma....I could not think if any other actor who could have played it so real as Tom Hanks did an...

krish 3 review

Image
With Krish3 Rakesh Roshan has ensured he has a long lasting Property which can be build over years now....Krish 3 technically possibly is the best SuperHero movie which Bollywood has produced ever... Its not so much about the story and script as its about the quality of computer graphics.... Though its pretty clear that its inspired from a few Hollywood movies specially the climax was quite similar in treatment to the last Superman movie but still its worth it to see a Hindi movie been able to pull off a high quality Superhero movie so well.... The kids who love Krish are going to love him even more post this one.... For what to expect, apart from another superlative performance from Hrithik look out for Vivek Oberoi & Kangana ranawat almost stealing the show.....Vivek Oberoi after a long long time seems to have not just getting his act right with a performance where he looks really convincing in the role....Kangana ranawat on the other hand was looking extremely gorge...

Shudha desi romance review

Sometimes ideas are good but execution falters. Similar is the fate with this movie. The movie generated lot of word of mouth due to its catchy trailers which had a young and trendy look. Very much it is true to the expectation it created but where it falters is it takes too much time to make its point without a proper storyline. The movie starts with a slightly hatke  storytelling, sushant singh Rajput and pariniti Chopra stay true to their image of upcoming actors who act without inhibition. They keep the audience quite engrossed in the first half with their modern day romance. The problem starts when the movie instead of trying to tell a story basically repeats the first half instances of sushant with another girl who is equally beautiful and spontaneous but soon you realise that their is nothing new you can expect in the storyline. That's when it starts dragging. By the end you realise that you spent 720 bucks (240 each) for understanding that today's youth basically doesn...

Review Madras Cafe

Image
Madras Cafe is a bold initiative from John Abraham is all what comes spontaneously to my mind after i cam out of the theater after watching the movie. There are reasons to make this comment is because the production house has consciously stayed true to the intense thriller without getting into any commercial demands of Bollywood.... How will this move play for the movie only audience can tell and therefore its fate commercially Coming to my views i found it as an above average movie which had an intense plot, the screenplay is tight hence keeps you hooked on till the end on how it all plays out....The team has definitely done lot of research to ensure the intricacies of how the flow of events during 'LTTE' era played out and cast and settings which look believable. The direction seems inspired from hollywood political thirillers like 'Syriana'. On the flip side while its an above par movie from Bollywood standards if i compare with Hollywood politco thriller...

Review Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Image
'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' is a biopic of India's best athlete till date i.e. Milkha Singh. As a film enthusiast i was a bit skeptical about the film as i was not sure how will the team of BMB would have treated the story , will it be like a documentary, will ROMP (rakesh om prakash mehra) pull it off after his extremely boring experiment with Delhi6, will Farhan Akhtar with his limited acting abilities pull it off and most importantly how will the first story of Prasoon Joshi shape up.... Well the fact that its a documentary about Milkha Singh is true but the outcome is outstanding. While i came out of the hall i had only one thing to say ROMP has done it yet again , may not be to the extent what he had done with RDB (Rang De Basanti) but definitely to a large extent, Prasoon with his storytelling and ROMP with his direction have delivered to the brief of connecting hearts and Inspiring Indians...... The movie although a biopic never goes off the radar, it doesn't f...

Review Lootera

Image
The trailors of lootera seemed like a really intense love story which would touch your heart. With this expectations i went to see lootera. Must say the sets, music, lyrics, costume, camera work were just awesome. Both Sonakshi, Ranveer have definitely put in their heart to bring this intense love story come alive. Bikramditya Motwane used the background score and music to bring further intensity in the storytelling but inspite of all these the film failed to make an impact on my emotions which is what this film set out to do. It doesn't mean its not a film worth watching, its still a above average movie but what you expect from a director of the capability of motwane was missing. The music is just awesome that takes your heart away, photography is out of the world, in terms of costumes and sets the team has brought alive the 1950's i just wish the movie had greater soul.

Raanjhanaa Review

Image
Raanjhanaa is a one sided love story between a Hindu Boy and Muslim Girl. But if you are thinking that its a typical Hindu Muslim story then you are mistaken . You will have to watch it to appreciate it as the director and storywriter has indeed tried to delve deeper into the emotions of a boy madly in love with a girl... The script though may not be the most high quality but one has to watch it for this extremely talented actor Dhanush who shines like hell in this rather ordinary movie otherwise.....He not only impresses you but would take you by surprise specially those who are not exposed to his Tamil Histrionics... This guy is just amazing and just proves a point here that acting is not about looks but about talent....With rather unhero like looks he manages to outshine everybody in the movie specially the fact that he does not know Hindi but still manages to give an impression that he has not gone for a dub in the movie (hope thats true) and does complete justice with the e...

Man Of Steel.....Review

Image
If there was a god of films Christopher Nolan will be regarded as one of them. This man is just amazing. His ability to treat a simple comic story into a wave of complex equations, sit through and wonder whats going to happen next even though you are watching at the end of the day adaptation of a comic strip you have read 'n' no. of times is an amazing capability. Just like what he did with Batman, he has done with Superman. Gave you a completely new perspective of the story and treatment which delves deeper and deeper into the emotions of the key protagonist and also questions and explains the reason for existence of each character......At the end of the day instead of being a light hearted comic story it becomes a complex story of the war between two planets who are fighting for each other's existence and the common link between the two is none other than Superman..... The movie therefore is a treat to watch specially the initial 2 hours which is spent on establi...

Review Bombay Talkies

Image
Bombay Talkies celebrates the 100 years of Indian Cinema thru an ensemble of 4 short movies directed by 4 famous directors. Its not inspired by Hollywood movies like Crash where unrelated stories merge together towards the end.....Its pretty original from that point of view. The movie therefore have one story each from Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar & Anurag Kashyap.....The binding theme in all but one is 'Bollywood' and leaves you with a significant message at the end....While Dibakar leaves you with the message that if you really work hard to follow your dreams no matter how small the achievement is it gives you the biggest satisfaction in life, while in case of Anurag's film its about how a son goes behind following his fathers dream related to Bollywood, Zoya on the other hand leaves you with the story of 'follow your dream no matter how much people discourage you'......So Dreams & Bollywood has been the common theme of all three directo...

Review Nautanki Saala

Image
Nautanki Saala from Rohan Sippy is a well scripted and directed movie though will not appeal to masses...In terms of script its pretty normal but the take of a 'love triangle' in todays day and world and against the backdrop of theater has been very well managed and does come as a breath of fresh air.... Unlike age old Bollywood way of dealing with Love Triangles which is full of ideals and sacrifices Rohan Sippy focusses on basic human instincts and a normal guy behaves and acts when he is unable to control his instincts but gets into a confused state the moment his 'conscience' questions him whether he doing something wrong and finally what decison he takes and how he deals with the whole situation... Ayushman Khurana in his second flick after 'Vicky Donor' has definitely arrived as a good actor who is going to have some shelf life in this competitive industry and so does Kunal Roy Kapoor who too impresses with his histrionics.... Though the movie may...

Review Ek Thi Daayan

Image
Ek Thi Daayan has been yet another underpromoted but widely expected flick from the house of ALT ENTERTAINMENT which is slowly but surely making its name for its Edgy Content.... This movie was even more expected because its co-producers are Vishal Bhardwaj & Rekha Bhardwaj and had some tremendous set of actors in its cast in Konkona/Emraan/Kalki & Huma....The movie was expected  to be edgy/tight and full of suspense going by its name.... The movie started as expected as Emraan starts narrating his story of childhood which had some interesting events which is haunting him even today.....The first half kept its promise as Director Kannan Iyer quite successfully keeps the audience on its edge and builds the character of 'Daayan' played by Konkona.....But by the time it reaches Interval and post that in the 2nd half he fails to keep the suspense and horror intact which was expected from the quality house of ALT and Bhardwaj's.... The movie ends up being too pr...

Django Unchained

Image
Quentin Tarantino is back yet again with a simple but stylishly told story of 'Django' who is unchained.... The movie is set in the Texas USA around the 1850's when Slavery was at its highest point and Negros were treated like you would treat animals in US..... The story revolves around Django a Slave(Jamie Foxx) and Dr. Shultz(Christopher Waltz) who join hands initially for business but later on go on a mission to rescure Django's wife Broom Hildon (Kerry Washington) from the slavery of Calvien Candie(Leoanardo De Caprio) who is an inhuman and extremely egoistic rich man .... Though the story for us Indian's could be related to a typical bollywood masala action movie where the Hero rescues his heroine from the hands of the villain through the help of another friend but the difference lies in Treatment and authenticity of characters..... Tarantino plays the story in the backdrop of Salvery and he is bang on when it comes to bring out the barbari...

Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster Returns

Image
Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster have returned finally with lot of expectations as the initial version was quite intriguing, erotic and thrilling. This version made it even more exciting as it had Irfaan Khan on the other side as gangster.....The movie starts with a beautiful punjabi number and the screen slowly makes you remind of the happenings in the last version and introducing the new characters like the new gangster "irfaan khan'.... The plot even this time remains pretty much the same and so the style of storytelling which is slow and looks forward to build up the 'thrill/suspense' as it goes along....Instead of 'Randeep Hooda' who in the first version turns into a gangster as he dreams of having the cake and eat it too by wooing the 'biwi' Mahi Gill and plots to takeover 'Sahib's' power thru her....But at the end the plot doesn't really work in favour of him as the Biwi changes her mind at the end..... In this part too the Biwi ...

Review Kai Po Che

Image
If it was 'Rock On' with which Abhisek Kapoor rocked the world with Kai Po Che he has left them spellbound....Abhisek  has this uncanny style of film making where the emotions are heightened in a very very subliminal way and by the time you realise you are completely immersed in it.... He doesn't use any used formula but uses a mix of reality and creativity to touch his audiences heart....His screenplay initially bores you a bit because it starts very slowly and then slowly in a very subtle manner the emotions take you over.... His favorite subject seems to be relationship between friends...So in a way both Rock on and Kai Po Che have a similarity which is both are stories of three friends but the backdrop changes completely between Rock On which was set in very Metro Setting while Kai Po Che is set in Gujarat about three middle class friends and very impressively he manages to handle both backdrop with equal ease and hence leaves his mark as a go...

Special 26 Review

Image
Special 26 is going to be a special movie for 'Akshay Kumar'....This is the first time Akshay has tried a role which is very different from his typical type. Directed by Neeraj Pandey of 'The Wednesday' fame has done it yet again with another fast paced film with an unpredictable climax.... Based on a true story from the 1980's the film deals with the story of a group of 4 people who con influential people by posing as CBI officers and their chase by actual CBI Officer Manoj Bajpai with the help of 'Jimmy Shergill & Divya Dutta'.....Like 'The Wednesday' even here Neeraj Pandey manages to keep the pace just right and not just that he manages beautifully to create the feel of 1980's in terms of costumes and sets.....he ensures to keep the finer details right..... The movie doesn't depend on the star power (inspite of having a star) but purely exceeds on its plot , direction and good performance by each character.....Neeraj Pandey...
Image
Inkaar from Sudhir Mishra is yet another 'multiplex' movie which at least 'Sudhir Mishra' fans were awaiting as he is one of those few directors who loves exploring human relationships very deeply in his movies and that makes his movies an interesting watch though it appeals to a niche not the mass.... With INKAAR he tries to explore the divide between 'Harrasment' & 'Flirt' and also in the backdrop how love and hatred could change the behavior of people to each other.... INKAAR idea may have been little bit inspired from 'Hollywood' movie 'Disclosure' but the execution and story is very original....With INKAAR Arjun Rampal finally seemed to have understood how to act and have been good in his role for a change.....Chirtragandha Singh has been good as usual but still she looks a little restraint in her dialogue delivery.... The movie revolves around these two people and the whole movies keeps going into flashback though ...

Review 'Jekhane Bhooter Bhoy'

Image
Sandip Ray is one hell of a lucky person whose dad has left so many stories that he would never need to look elsewhere to make movies. 'Jekhane Bhooter' bhoy is one such ensemble of stories. A simple , light hearted ghost story is what the movie is all about which takes us through three different ghost stories being unfolded by one 'Dadu' (Paran Banerjee) who is telling these to a group of children.... Each story has a twist in the end and the last one being played by 'Saswata' has a comical twist to the story... While the first two stories are slightly darker the last one is fully a stressbuster as you enjoy the interaction between 'Saswata' (the protagonist) and 'Paran Banaerjee'(the ghost)..... 'Jekhane Bhooter Bhoy' is possibly one of the best creations from Sandip Ray till which is well timed, light hearted and very tight.....The movie will definitely catch lots of audiences thru sheer 'Word Of Mouth'... A great ...

Review 'Table No. 21'

Image
The first weekend of 2013 was eagerly awaited for movie goers like me who were waiting to see the new releases on the first weekend of the new year. Its kind of a unique experience and so was a Table No. 21 one of the two Bollywood releases in the first week. Directed by Aditya Dutt the movie is yet another attempt by Talented 'Rajeev Khandelwal' to resurrect his career in Bollywood. Yet again he had been very consistent in his choice of films as this one too is a 'Hatke' movie....Its 2013 start by ERos and possibly should be the first movie which should give some credibility to new director 'Aditya Datt'. Table no. 21 is a thriller which revolves around this couple played by Rajeev Khandelwal and newcomer Tena Desai who have won a contest and have come to Fiji Islands for a holiday. As a part of the holiday package they are invited for an exotic lunch on their anniversary day, where they meet the resorts (where they are living) owner played by Paresh Rawa...
