Review Bombay Talkies
Bombay Talkies celebrates the 100 years of Indian Cinema thru an ensemble of 4 short movies directed by 4 famous directors. Its not inspired by Hollywood movies like Crash where unrelated stories merge together towards the end.....Its pretty original from that point of view.
The movie therefore have one story each from Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar & Anurag Kashyap.....The binding theme in all but one is 'Bollywood' and leaves you with a significant message at the end....While Dibakar leaves you with the message that if you really work hard to follow your dreams no matter how small the achievement is it gives you the biggest satisfaction in life, while in case of Anurag's film its about how a son goes behind following his fathers dream related to Bollywood, Zoya on the other hand leaves you with the story of 'follow your dream no matter how much people discourage you'......So Dreams & Bollywood has been the common theme of all three directors that at certain level binds them together.....
Each one of them i.e. Zoya, Dibakar & Anurag leaves their brilliance as storytellers and touches your heart emotionally thru the story......The best one which i liked were Dibakar's story of this guy who for once gives the smallest job he gets the biggest effort and how it changes his life that day....Played by Nwazuddin Siddqqui the story , he showed in this movie why he is regarded as one of the best actors in Indian Cinema today....In his small act with very little dialogues Nawazuddin blows you with his emotionally charged enact...It was just beautiful and very very touching.....I wish actors like him get the best roles and biggest money that they deserve......The story of Anurag Kashyap too is a combination of 'emotional moments' and 'lighter moments'.....The story follows this guy from Allahabad who comes to Mumbai to fulfill his fathers dream of letting Amitabh Bacchan taste their home made 'Morabba' and how he goes about fulfilling that task.....
Overall Bombay Talkies is a good 'ensemble' of three good movies with Bollywood as the background theme.....Its definitely watchable and pay a tribute to our Entertainment Industry.....
If you are feeling a little inquisitive why am i talking about only three directors and not about the fourth most celebrated name i.e. Karan Johar is because he has emerged as a pure misfit in this ensemble of three highly talented directors....Not only Karan Johar's story looks like a pure misfit in the common theme of 'Bollywood' but its also very very poorly directed and the story is very stupid and insensible.....Hence the less we talk about it is better....It only proved that Karan Johar should stick to his core competency of making 'Stylish Romantic Movies' and not fool himself to believe that he is a good filmmaker......May be Karan Johar was force fit in this ensemble so that the movie can get a good release and raise some money for Promotion otherwise there is no reason for Karan Johar's movie to be included in Bombay Talkies....
So this weekend do watch Bombay Talkies and ignore the first story in the movie from Karan and enjoy the brilliant work in the other three.....
