Review of 'Icche' (bengali movie)
Icche is possibly one of the most wonderful movies i have ever seen till date...More so for the wonderful wonderful performance by 'Sohini Sengupta'...
The whole story revolves around the mother 'Mamta' and son 'Soumik' played by 'Sohini Sengputa' & 'Samadarshi Dutta'.
The mother is a typical bengali mother who is over possessive and protectionist about her son and wants to fullfill all her dreams thru her son....She wants to fullfill all her dreams thru her son and in the process forgets that her son has a life and identity of his own...'Soumik' starts realising this uncomfortable reality when he falls in love witha Girl in Class XIIth and her mother comes to know of it....
The story on hand is simple but on the other hand it deals with various shades of character of 'Mamta' who loves her son like anything, sometimes she is her best buddy, sometimes she is biggest opponent and sometimes she is manipulating...
The story brings to the fore a very very real 'characterisation' of this mother-son story which is found in many homes...
The movie raises its standard from being a normal story to a great movie because of the superb characterisation by the director on hand but also because superb performance by 'Sohini Sengupta' who has performed the role so well that its difficult to explain in words...I feel its one of the most superlative and powerful performance where the actor has really really got into the skin of the character and according to me a very very powerful movie and possibly one of the best i have ever seen in my life till date....
I just wish that such roles and performances are seen by a wider audience as they deserve that recognition....
Apart from 'Sohini' even 'Samadarshi' has played his role extremely well and have dealt with the emotions of a son who loves her mother as much as she does but with lot of pain in his heart has to take decisons extremely painful to her mother...
The last shot of the movie is just superb and keeps you wondering about the experience you just had...
The only weakness in the movie i felt is very poor music which could have lifted the movie even higher but this weakness is too small in comparison to the power the movie has generated by its plot, characterisiation, direction and acting...
A must watch for anybody who likes to watch good movies irrespective of language....
