Harishchandrachi Factory, Invictus

Cinema does not have a language barrier, u understand when u see movies like 'Harishchandrachi Factory'...Although the movie is in Marathi (unfortunately the CD did not have subtitles...just a suggestion...Regional movie CD's should always be released with subtitles it will only improve sales) it never worked as a barrier....The movie is uniquely made as it recreates in totality the time when dadasaheb phalke lived...u will never ever feel like that its a contemporary movie...i feel that is the high point of the movie...the performances too are immaculate both Nandu Madhav & Vibhawari Deshpande have given a lifetime performance...The director/writer establishes the whole story in such a way that at it looks like a fairytale journey by dadasaheb phalke...Its ironic that such a good movie hasn't been seen across the country due to lack of promotion...But for me its a movie worth keeping in my collections....a brilliant job by the entire crew and UTV...

'Invictus' is again a must watch which shows how a leader can play a big role in unifying a country....It tells us the story of Sir Nelson Mandela and how he uses the 'Rugby' world cup of 1996 as a key tool to initiate a sense of 'South Africanism' among his native citizens and break the barrier or races...The movie is highly insightful and very apt for a country like ours...We are divided by religion/language/caste/states....these elements of division are more and more eroding our attachment to our country and this is the biggest threat that is preventing our country to really explode....Don't know whether our political establishment will ever take a kind of decision that Nelson Mandela took but this movie definitely shows that how you can look forward to unite a nation if you want to...All you have to do is raise above politics...something beyond the scope of our leaders...

  1. Guru, over the weekend I also watched two movies.

The first one was Well Done Abba. Interesting story and fortunately the director took lots of cerative liberties to keep it relevant for the urbal folks. It would have been a good play but as a movie, it was bound to fail. Boman Irani as usual is a treat to watch. Other like Rajat Kapor and Sonali Kulkarni is wasted completely.

The second is My Name is Khan. It is a terrible movie and best left unwatched. Karan Johar thinks audience is an asshole and goes ahead and treats them as such. This movie once again proves that how with such limited talent and boundless attitude (and PR!!) Shah Rukh has reached where he has. But the fault is not his. The script is weak, the direction weaker...

Somebody gimme me my Rock On (or Dil Chahate hai) again....
