Some serious questions on the movie business???

Given the fact that all movies are now on TV within few weeks of release gives us a sense that producers are looking for multiple revenue streams big time...(in fact i have heard some of them plays a role in releasing the pirated CD's as well..when they know it will not do well....)....Looking at the quality of movies being made now a days , big time fall in footfalls in Multiplexes due to much faster spread of 'Word of mouth'unlike a couple of years back (thanks to social networking)...it gives me an indication that somewhere the business model of 'Movies' are not working smoothly, which is forcing producers to release it on TV much sooner than required so that they can at least cash in on the idiot box which at least gives them greater assurance of 'Eyeballs' (as typically people do give all those movie a watch which they haven't seen in theatre's...bcoz for them its free of cost..)...While its good for the producers that they have TV to save them today at least to some extent...But a question that it brings to the fore is that 'Isn't it true that Bollywood hardly cares about content and money is being spent recklessly'

Saw 'Housefull' the other day...producers claim it made money but i am damn sure its false...as with content like that even a fool won't like that movie...I mean the movie is not only mindless but its a pain to watch...not even a single dialogue/scene evokes humor....it looks like a 'picinic party' by the big stars who later thought of editing it into a movie....the movie really sucks...On the other hand u have a movie like 'Raavan' where a talented person like 'Mani Sir' completely neglected Casting and the movie fell flat on its face

These examples raises three main questions in my mind

a. Is black money still being poured into Bollywood and crap movies (just like in the 80's) with better production values are being made randomly...

b. Is the multiplex model working....i have a big doubt...in last six months hardly any good movie which is worth watching has released and movies have found it very difficult to sustain footfalls past the day of release....thanks to Word Of Mouth...

c. Isn't it time that movies are made more scientifically where content/casting/narrtaion and other technical aspects become more important than the Stars...actors are taken as per the demand of the role....Isn't it time our talent pool learns something from 'Hollywood' where there is not one big star who rules the industry....there are successfull and not so successful actors based on performance...not merely name...

  1. So true....

I think the first point raised.. it has always been the case... only some movies made money and some didnt..
2nd point on multiplex, may be thats the only saving grace for these films as because of the footfalls in the malls etc.. ppl kind of give it a shot for any movie which is running there.. and hence the movies make some money in their opening weeks.. and yea some low budget movies do make some profits itself in the opening week... after that who cares.. release it on tv.. pirate it and make money et al...

Stars rules : this concept i dont know when will go out the mind of our filmamkers.. i feel atleast the younger lot is more sensible in this and they have started to make movies with new actors and sensible plots.. take for example the upcoming UDAN.. Hope it does well.. Veteran directors please grow up now...
