The Dirty Picture - An Entertainer

A typical South Indian track introduces us to the world of South Indian cinema and the world of 'Silk'....The initial background score, the pace at which the movie starts gives us a perception that the movie is going to be raunchy, hard hitting and will demonstrate the dark side of 'South Indian Movie Industry' specially during 70's and 80's very boldly.....Into the first half as the movie concentrates on the rise of 'Silk' it does lot of justice to the promise it made and yes it seemed like 'Vidya' was enjoying herself doing the role of silk...bringing out all the emotions of a girl who is madly searching for a lead in the film industry in the most natural manner one could.... While the first half was a great entertainer i felt it could have been much more bolder than what it was and it was clear that 'Ekta & Milan' always walked a thin line possibly keeping the sensibilities of Indian Audience & Censor Board.... As 'Silk' matured in the movie so did its pace and the interest element....The movie dragged as it shifted gears from 'Silks' journey to her 'love hate' relationship with a film reporter (anju mahendru) and director-actor (emraan hashmi) and that led to make most of the 2nd half boring as it lacked the energy of the 1st half.... The last 10 minutes however again brought back life into the movie thanks to 'Vidya's' stupendous performance... Overall i felt that the movie was brilliant in the 1st half could have been much much better in 2nd half....While 'Naseerudiin Shah' in his role of an ageing casting couch hero was superb...the role of emraan hashmi and tushaar kapoor were not well etched and dragged the story in the 2nd half.... The movie still remains a good product from the stable of Ekta Kapoor and Milan Lutharia and an entertainer but not a movie which you would like to watch again or will grow on you....It will for sure make money as its an entertainer and caters to a wider audience and therefore will cut across masses....Compared with ALT Entertainement's & Milan Lutharia's past record i would say its below them.... The movie could have been more powerful if the script concentrated to 'Silks' relationships only and her journey rather than dragging in between to bring in other elements....Somewhere i felt even the makers were aware of it and they dragged their feet in really pushing the envelope.... This is possibly the best display of histrionics by Vidya Balan till date and the fact that she enjoyed it so much made us feel that possibly no one else other than her could have done justice to this role....Hats off to her.... Go watch 'The Dirty Picture' and get entertained....

Icche is possibly one of the most wonderful movies i have ever seen till date...More so for the wonderful wonderful performance by 'Sohini Sengupta'... The whole story revolves around the mother 'Mamta' and son 'Soumik' played by 'Sohini Sengputa' & 'Samadarshi Dutta'. Some serious questions on the movie business???

Given the fact that all movies are now on TV within few weeks of release gives us a sense that producers are looking for multiple revenue streams big time...(in fact i have heard some of them plays a role in releasing the pirated CD's as well..when they know it will not do well....)....Looking at the quality of movies being made now a days , big time fall in footfalls in Multiplexes due to much faster spread of 'Word of mouth'unlike a couple of years back (thanks to social networking)...it gives me an indication that somewhere the business model of 'Movies' are not working smoothly, which is forcing producers to release it on TV much sooner than required so that they can at least cash in on the idiot box which at least gives them greater assurance of 'Eyeballs' (as typically people do give all those movie a watch which they haven't seen in theatre's...bcoz for them its free of cost..)...While its good for the producers that they have TV to save them ...

Sardar Udham - Amazon Prime

 I was awaiting Sardar Udham with a lot of eagerness because of two reasons. # 1 - It was Shoojit's latest creation and we all know how good a film maker he is. # 2 - It had Vicky Kaushal who is one of the best actors in Bollywood today. The 2hr 42 min film was made with great intent to dive deep into the mind and motives of Sardar Udham Singh that led to the killing of Michael O' Dwyer 20 years after he had given the orders for Jaliwalan Bagh Executions. The highest point of the film was the last 40 minutes which showcases the Jaliwalan Bagh killings and the diplomatic defense of the incident by the army and bureaucrats of the British. It does shake you, emotionally stirs you and does make you feel angry that till date there is no official apology of the same by the United Kingdom. The film depicts some interesting characterization of Bhagat Singh and his philosophy.
