DON 2
Farhan Akhtar did a marvellous job with 'Don' which was sleek, an entertaining script with a twist and an underplayed new DON in SRK and was in true sense a fresh modern version of Don which apart from the name and was a completely fresh movie which when you saw never felt like comparing with the old one....It was in a nutshell a marvelous movie.
That is why as a fan i was quite eagerly looking forward to Don2....The tailors were looking very sleek, music gave it the connection with its previous version and SRK looks were looking good.
As i went into the movie the first half started with an action sequence introducing Don i.e. SRK in thailand and setting the pretext of Don trying to make an entry into the Drug Cartel in Europe and Drug Cartel in Eurpope wanting to finish him off....I must say a very good setting which had lot of potential to be exploited in the script.....Then it moves onto Interpol HQ in Malyasia where it introduces the old characters 'Roma' i.e. Priyanka and 'Om Puri' who is still unhappy not being able to capture Don in his career.....The script now wanting to make a connection between the old characters in Malyasia and Don brings him to the Interpol HQ's to surrender before the police...While Don was behaving that he had surrendered with a plan in mind...Police has behaving as if its a great victory for them that Don is in custody....Then there was another character in Interpol who seemed to be having love interest in 'Roma' and in the whole movie u would never see him doing anything to with Interpol but just take care of Roma and make a fool out of himself......Don moves on with is plan in the jail while Interpol is completely unaware or even interested to understand about his plans....Finally Don succeeds in breaking the jail with his old enemy now friend 'Vardaan' i.e Boman Irani...Only after Don breaks the jail with Vardaan Interpol wakes up to the fact and starts tracking him but completely without purpose and every time Don gives them a run for their money quite easily....
Once all characters introduced the movie shifts gear and concentrates completely on Don's robbery act in a Swiss Bank using Vardaan and his team including Lara Dutta....Unlike the 1st half where the story was trying to track all old characters and make connections between and as a result was looking very silly and was moving at a very slow pace and quite frankly the 1st half was looking like a script without purpose, the 2nd half where it fully focused on the robbery act and how Don plans for it and executes it was a good act which made you forget the weaknesses of 1st half....
SRK was superb in his act as a cunning, clever outlaw....Some of his dialogues can't stop you but smile specially when he meets the VP of the DZB bank and tells him 'Autograph mat mangna please' on the VP's surprised reaction once he reveals that he is none other than Don....
Overall the movie can be clearly demarcated as a weak 1st half and quite entertaining strong 2nd half....
It was all throughout and SRK movie as other than him all other character looked silly....
Possibly this was the weakness of the movie that it concentrated so much of one character that it forgot to give Don any competition in terms of intelligence and as an audience i felt it was little stupid....Also the movie started with Drug Cartel pretext but completely lost out and moved onto a different robbery act which had nothing to do with the initial pretext...
Overall Don2 definitely is a good onetime watch and to be fait to Farhan it is possibly the only character based sequel attempted in Bollywood So Far and he has done a decent job...
For DON 3 possibly he can treat the script better and provide all other characters enough intelligence and make DON's job difficult which will make it a more entertaining watch....From hereon it should be treated like a classic 'Comic Strip' which should be more like a Chase between DON & ROMA to keep it relevent in every story and both characters having a oneupman ship in every story....
