Movies to look forward to in 2012
Between Hollywood and Bollywood 2012 is surely skewed towards Hollywood with some blockbuster releases worldwide. Here is a list of some of them
J Edgar - Directed by Clint Eastwood and acted by Leonardo DiCaprio Josh Lucas,Naomi Watts
J. Edgar explores the life of one of the most powerful and controversial figures of the 20th century.DiCaprio delivers a superb performance as the ex-head of FBI for 48 years. The film examines Edgars personal life as an alleged closeted homosexual. Given Clint Eastwood and Leonardo we can surely look forward to this as being an intense movie.
The 'Descendents' directed by 'Alexander Payne' acted by George Clooney,Shailene Woodley,Judy Greer,Beau Bridges
After the fabulous 'Ides of March',George Clooney has another winner on his hands.Directed by Alexander Payne (Sideways),The Descendants has been nominated for the Golden Globes and will find itself in the Oscar list soon enough.Clooney plays an indifferent husband and father of two who reckons he needs to do some soul searching after his wife suffers a boating accident.Funny and moving, the film has received rave reviews for its pitch perfect performances and nuanced writing.
Django Unchained is in my fav list and i am looking forward to it as this one is one of the movies where director Quentin Tarantino will be experimenting a bit....Although the movie remains in the 'action' genre its set against a backdrop of human traficking and prostitution....The movie also holds lot of promise as we could see Jamie Fox and Leonardo DiCaprio together and possibly the later in a negative role.....
In Django Unchained,a slave-turned-bounty hunter (Jamie Foxx),with the help of his mentor, sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner (DiCaprio). After the brilliant Inglorious Basterds,it will be interesting to see how Tarantino handles subjects like slavery and forced prostitution.
The Dark Knight Rises is the continuation to the batman trilogy ...The trailors are already promising and being a christopher nolan movie you can be sure of witnessing yet another intense, dark and complicated batman movie...The movie continues with Christian Bale and deals with a plot where terrorist leader Bane arrives in Gotham City, pushing it and its police force to their limits, forcing Batman to resurface after taking the fall for Harvey Dent's crimes
The HOBBIT is the return of DIRECTOR Peter Jackson ACTORS Andy Serkis,Elijah Wood,Hugo Weaving
after the Lord of the Rings trilogy.Bilbo Baggins journeys to the Lonely Mountain to reclaim a treasure taken by the dragon Smaug.High production values, motion capture technology, stunning locations should be pure magic.
AVENGERS is going to be a thrilling adventure where you just need to sit and enjoy the action...DIRECTOR Joss Whedon ACTORS Robert Downey Jr,Chris Evans Superheroes unite in Avengers as the peace-keeping organisation The S.H.I.E.L.D.brings together a team of superhumans to help save the Earth from annihilation by extraterrestrial invaders.
With these power packed movies which is a combination of drama, thriller, intensity and action you can be rest assured that for Hollywood it will be HOLY GOOD YEAR...
BOLLYWOOD on the other hand is a combination of some big budget entertainers, few remakes and some new releases targetted at the youth audiences...
Here is the list
Agneepath and Chasme Baddoor are remakes that we will witness this year and hopefully will be an interesting watch specially Agneepath where Hrithik will redo the intense role of Amitabh Bacchan. New director Karan Malhotra will be tested in this movie under the guidance of Karan Johar. David Dhawan however will entertain us with the remake of Chasme Baddoor with Sidharth and Ali Zafar....I have an hunch that between the two David Dhawan will surprise us more than Karan Malhotra.
Talaash and Heroine possibly will be intense drama movies. Talaash looks like a thriller with Amir Khan, Kareena and Rani Mukherjee teaming up for the first time together. The movie directed by 'Honeymoon Travels' director Reema Kangti holds lot of promise being an Amir Khan Movie. After sarfarosh amir will be donning the role of a policeman once again.
Heroine on the other hand dwells with the story of an heroine whose career is on the decline. The movie is directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and hence promises yet another realistic commercial movie. Once again Kareena will be playing the lead role. In 2012 kareena will have as many as 4 releases...
In Big Budget entertainers we have Akshay Kumar's Khiladi 786, Ajay Devgan's home production Son of sardar, Rohit Shetty's Bol Bachhan and Shirish Kunder's 'Joker' with Akshay in lead. Bol Bachhan is suppossed to be a remake of 'Golmaal' (olden era)...While all other movies will surely entertain and make money i am concerned about Joker given Shirish Kunder first attempt with Jaaneman a couple of years back...
The experimental small budget movies will be seen thru 'Ferrari Ki Sawari' from Vidhu Vinod Chopra Stable with Sharman Joshi in the lead. The story is a fun filled family drama of a son whose dream is to play in lords some day.
'Barfee' is the 'Ranbir Kapoor' release this year a love story between a deaf and dumb couple...Directed by Anurag Basu....While Ranbir continues to do intense experimental roles for Anurag Basu its a test to strengthen his credibility post 'KITES'....I feel for movie lovers Barfee is a must watch....
Salman Khan Special 'Ek Tha Tiger' will be 2012 eid's release by Sallu bhai. Directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Yash Chopra productions the movie should be yet another entertainer bringing Sallu Bhai and Katrina together.
Others:- Players from Abbas Mastan and Ek Mai Ek Tu will release early this year none of which from the trailors are holding much promise....But Abbas Mastaans may still entertain its core audiences in the Hindi Speaking belt where all its early movies have done well....Ek mai ek tu ???
