5 movies on my way to new orleans
On my way to New Orleans it was an interesting start. The continental airlines flight was cancelled and i was shifted to otherwise empty Air India fleet. To my surprise the Air India fleet was quite well renovated and to my bigger surprise it had a in flight entertainment system on all seats....The real surprise came when i went thru the menu....I must say it was truly Indian with a good range of Hindi and Regional movies on the plate and with that also a wide range of hollywood movies....Net net positively surprised by the quality....Then started the selection.....Started with a bengali movie 'abohoman'.....It was just 5 minutes into the movie that i got really bored with the typical intellectual approach of bengali movie makers where every dialogues comes after a long deep breath and between two dialogues there is a difference of at least 5 minutes....So i switched Gears and chose a telugu movie and thats where my day started:- Movie No. 1:- Telugu, Villagelo Vinayakudu:- This movie is a 2009 hit and sequel to 2008 hit 'Vinyakudu Krishnudu'....The movie is a very very simple plot of a School teacher Karthik (Krishunudu) falling in love with a medico Kavya (Sharanya Mohan). The only small problem is Karthik is a little (not really) too fat for Kavya whereas Kavya's dada who is a colonel from the Army wants a perfect groom for his daughter. The story revolves around how Karthik who believes in small joys of life and takes everything on face value without any hesitation lands up at Kavya's house in the upcountry and takes up his own case before Kavya's entire family and how slowly thru his simplicity and good heart he wins everybodies heart including ultimately Kavya's fathers.....The movie does not have anything other than the simplicity of the story, simplicity of acting and that makes it a treat to watch.....A must watch for all age groups and i guarantee you are going to enjoy the movie for sure..... Movie No. 2:- Marathi :- Tarayanche Beit:- Tarayanche Beit is possibly one of the most superb movies i have seen in my life till date. The movie belongs to just one person i.e. Sachin Khedekar. Shot in original locations like Dapoli brings the movie even more alive as it brings you real close to the life of a small govt employee working in the public works department of a real small town somewhere in Maharashtra....The movie deals with the issue of 'managing kids aspirations in a world where their aspirations are exposed to so many things all of which we cannot satisfy'....The movie produced by Balaji Motion Pictures beautifully depicts this subject thru a simple but very very touching story of a small time govt worker living somewhere in upcountry Maharashtra and how in his quest for fulfilling his promise of giving his son a one day stay in a 5 Star Hotel really puts himself into a fix and how he deals with this BIG problem that he created for himself....The movie is so touching that at many points it makes you cry but at no point it becomes dramatic....Its simplicity of execution yet powerful script and an out of the world, down to earth, touching and real performance by Sachin Khedekar makes this movie a simply superb movie and a must watch for anybody who thinks that they have a taste for movies....Kudos to Balaji Motion PIctures for supporting such a beautiful movie..... Movie No. 3:- The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, English Released in 2008 this movie won 13 academy awards nomination and won three is a truly epic movie which will be remembered for a long long time. Based on a strange story of Benjamin Button played by Brad Pit who ages in a reverse way and his love interest Daisy played by Cate Blanchet is visually and emotionally a real treat. Mark of great movies are that they make you get immersed in the action and most ordinary stories become extraordinary the way they are depcited. David Fincher and Eric Roth did quite something with this unusual story. The most touching moment in the movie is the last scene when Benjamin Button finally dies as a little baby on the lap of his wife....Brad Pit and Cate Blanchete and specially Brad Pit has been just marvelous in the movie...If anybody has not seen it this is a movie which one should buy a DVD and keep it because movies like these must be shown to your children when they grow up because they are epic and will always be relevant.... Movie No. 4 & 5:- Lafange Parinde & Patiala House Finally after watching some really good movies from Regional & Hollywood i came back to our own Bollywood and clearly there was a distinct difference....Too much drama, absence of content and unnecessary stretch are the hallmarks of Bollywood which were well depicted in both the movies more so in Patiala House...However having said that both movies had some good things to and let me touch upon them....'Lafange Parinde' enacted by 'Neil Nitin Mukesh' and 'Deepika Padukone' is a well acted and directed movie with a very very poor script.....The script revolves around the age old story of this girl i.e deepika with lots of dreams in her eyes meets up with an accident which coincidentally was committed by the Hero and all her dreams comes to a point of shattering down as she becomes blind till the hero holds her hand in guilt of committing this mistake, helps her to achieve her dream of winning a dance competition inspite of being blind and in the process falls in love with her....The good thing is that the movie is watchable because its directed by Pradeep Sarkar and acted pretty well by both actors...The problem remains its script which inspite of its goodness makes it a very ordinary movie.... Patiala House on the other hand is a typical Yash Chopra movie which starts well but becomes so dramatic in the middle that you lose interest and finally somehow reaches its climax....The high points of the movie is a surprisingly subdued performance by Akshay Kumar and ever energetic performance by Rishi Kapoor....Between the two clearly lafange paridye is more watchanble in case you ever think of picking up any of these DVD's.... Overall a trip well accomplished as i reached Newark airport without feeling jetlagged as my brains were rejuvenated by my quota of movies for the trip.... Will Continental on my way back will have any inflight entertainment is yet to be seen...So wish me luck....:)
