'Shob Choritro Kalponik' and 'Good Fellas'

Sometimes flights are great specially Jet Airways...I think they have a great collection of movies...Yesterday managed to see two movies in the flight and got inspired by both, very different styles but extremely powerful pieces of creativity.

'Shob Choritro Kalponik' is directed by Rituporno...The movie deals with the relationship of a poet husband and his wife and how she explores their relationship post the sudden death of her husband...The story is taken forward beautfully through poems recited in the background....What i loved is the fact that how the director brings out the fact that how in daily lives we evaluate our relationships functionally based on rational aspects of life but its only after a person is gone we explore the emotional bond we had with them....Its very simple and may be said many times before but the way rituporno makes you experience this is brilliant...I don't know how the movie has fared commercially but i think as a piece of 'creative work' its outstanding....The quality of very good directors is their ability to throw away the baggage every actor brings with oneself and making them enacting just the role...Rituporno did this brilliantly with 'Bipasha'...Prosonjeet as usual did his part really well...Here is one actor who has been underutilised and may be will remain like that....a very very beautiful, satisfying creative piece of work by rituporno....recommended for serious movie lovers

'Goodfellas' on the other hand is a masterpiece by 'Martin Scorcesse'...The movie is based on a true story about the life of a gangster 'Henry Hill'...The dialogues ' As far as i remember i always wanted to be a gangster, i believe being a gangster is better than being the President of United States' are just awesome...shows a very different perspective of guys who are gangsters by choice and loves doing things that they do...how unapologetic they are and how their families too become a part of it...Apparently it won lot of Oscars in 1990's...A must watch for those who haven't as its a masterpiece....

Tuesday was good as i felt creatively inspired....i hope everyday is like this....

  2. Saw Prakash Jha's Rajneeti last week...my mistake was that I went to see the movie with the information that it was loosely based on Mahabharatha...and the movie was too flat to churn out surprises so as to be enjoyable even after that...to me, Shyam Benegal's Kalyug, which was based on the same theme was a much stronger film...

  4. Soura, well i too saw rajneeti although as late as yesterday...but agree that the movie is definitely not the best as per Prakash Jha's standards..in fact 2nd half was not at all good and it was made with too much commercialism in Mind...most importantly the 'Karna' angle in it was aweful....but given the fact that this year till date no good movie released...rajneeti was far better than them....
