Review 'English Vinglish'

Saturday night BIG CINEMAS was full here in one small suburban town of Navi Mumbai. Just shows that there are some people who has the ability to rule people's heart forever. SRIDEVI seems one such person.

After watching 'English Vinglish' one saying comes true once again that 'Class in always permanent' and that's what Sridevi demonstrated in the movie with her pretty uncanny nature of acting which is never overboard or flashy.

'English Vinglish' is a simple story of a simple housewife who is in search of 'Respect' that she never gets at her home because of her inability to speak well in English and her journey of how she actually discovers her confidence once she goes to attend her sisters daughter's marriage in New York.

One one hand there is not much to describe about the movie but on the other hand its been a wonderful 2.5hrs experience in the theater when you are watching the movie. Its possibly because its a simple slice of life story. But what makes it a wonderful experience to watch is the originality of the story, the fact that we relate to it from our own lives experience and the fact that the story has stuck to its story and never ever manages to distract you with anything that is unnecessary.

Its a 'PERFECTLY' scripted, screen played and directed movie i haven't watched in a long long time. There is hardly any flaw that one can identify in the movie, may be the only little flaw that stands out sometimes is the difficulty with which Sridevi speaks Hindi but that is overcome by her powerful performance. I have never seen a movie which gets its start and climax absolutely smooth and perfect. 'Gouri Shinde' has been a real find i would say and it wouldn't be wrong if i say that at least in her first movie she has managed to impress the audience better than her husband (though it must be true that Balki has a big role to play as a producer, but just comparing pure direction gouri has been flawless). I loved the way the director has managed to keep the simplicity intact in the execution, each and every character is so real life that you completely relate with every situation. Over and above everything its the central character of 'Sridevi' who makes the audience feel the 'story' and her emotions every moment. Its been really a perfect and smart choice because when you look back its very difficult to believe whether 'English Vinglish' would have been a so enjoyable experience without 'Sridevi'.....It was the smartest move that Balki And Gouri Shinde made and am sure they will reap the benefits of that for some time to come.

Another important aspect is the 'Social Relevance' of the story which makes it a pure family entertainer that should cut across from 8 to 80. It's very hard to find such clean , socially relevant and clean movie which the entire family can watch together.

Commercially 'English Vinglish' should be a super hit, will get great word of mouth for sure, i hope that the producer and distributors have distributed the movie in enough territories and pop strata towns because this movie will cut across all demographic profiles....Commercially 'English Vinglish' will surely laugh the way to the Bank and Gouri, Balki & Team will have a satisfying feeling commercially and creatively.

So this weekend and the week to come do not lose your families chance to watch it together.
