This years Oscars Line Up Is Very Good

As of now have seen three Oscar Nominations Black Swan, Kings Speech and Kids Are All Right and must say all three are so good and so different that it gives me lot of confidence that this years Oscar Winner will be a worthy movie unlike last to last year where Slumdog won it more for hype than quality....Black Swan is a gripping psycho fiction based on a ballet dancer who has been selected for the main act and how in search for perfection developes an alternate personality and starts believing in it....Not so much for the script but more for the treatment and performances...Natalie portman has been seriosly awesome and worthy of golden globe for her role in this movie...Kings Speech on the other hand is a real life story of a stammering king of england and how he overcomes his weakness....Colin Firth enacting the role of stammering king to perfection and geoffrey rush gave yet another mind blowing intelligent performance as the doctor....most interesting thing about the movie is the fact that it does not digress from its subject while there was all the opportunity as the subject has shades of world war etc....Kids are allright is a supercool, stylish movie dealing with the story of this lesbian family whose grown up children finds their biological father and new relationships starts building up and they get complicated....the most interesting fact i liked about the movie is the unconventional social structure it shows which may be a very common thing to see as we move along in future......After watching such beautiful movies i am left with only one feeling why are Bollywood movies so cliche....Okay we do have few experimental filmmakers but still our scripts does not deal with as many variety of subjects as we could....India i am sure with its diversity can give so many so many different kinda stories that we cannot imagine....but our industry is still stuck with fixed genres and experimentations means style, slang but experimentation in scripts is still lacking.....one big factor in not been able to experiment also is the fact that we are still stuck with 'Star Phenomenon'....We still make a ravan with Abhisek and Rajneeti with Katrina where i am sure many actors would be there who can actually understand the role and get into the skin of role and give it life....the concept of auditions, storyboarding is yet to come here and i am sure the day that starts ....movies will be made differently in India.....

Icche is possibly one of the most wonderful movies i have ever seen till date...More so for the wonderful wonderful performance by 'Sohini Sengupta'... The whole story revolves around the mother 'Mamta' and son 'Soumik' played by 'Sohini Sengputa' & 'Samadarshi Dutta'. The mother is a typical bengali mother who is over possessive and protectionist about her son and wants to fullfill all her dreams thru her son....She wants to fullfill all her dreams thru her son and in the process forgets that her son has a life and identity of his own...'Soumik' starts realising this uncomfortable reality when he falls in love witha Girl in Class XIIth and her mother comes to know of it.... Some serious questions on the movie business???

Given the fact that all movies are now on TV within few weeks of release gives us a sense that producers are looking for multiple revenue streams big time...(in fact i have heard some of them plays a role in releasing the pirated CD's as well..when they know it will not do well....)....Looking at the quality of movies being made now a days , big time fall in footfalls in Multiplexes due to much faster spread of 'Word of mouth'unlike a couple of years back (thanks to social networking)...it gives me an indication that somewhere the business model of 'Movies' are not working smoothly, which is forcing producers to release it on TV much sooner than required so that they can at least cash in on the idiot box which at least gives them greater assurance of 'Eyeballs' (as typically people do give all those movie a watch which they haven't seen in theatre's...bcoz for them its free of cost..)...While its good for the producers that they have TV to save them ...

Sardar Udham - Amazon Prime

 I was awaiting Sardar Udham with a lot of eagerness because of two reasons. # 1 - It was Shoojit's latest creation and we all know how good a film maker he is. # 2 - It had Vicky Kaushal who is one of the best actors in Bollywood today. The 2hr 42 min film was made with great intent to dive deep into the mind and motives of Sardar Udham Singh that led to the killing of Michael O' Dwyer 20 years after he had given the orders for Jaliwalan Bagh Executions. The highest point of the film was the last 40 minutes which showcases the Jaliwalan Bagh killings and the diplomatic defense of the incident by the army and bureaucrats of the British. It does shake you, emotionally stirs you and does make you feel angry that till date there is no official apology of the same by the United Kingdom.
