Clint Eastwood & Christopher Nolan

Watching the classics of hollywood is always a treat....This weekend was great as i got to watch two beautiful movies GRAN TORINO by Clint Eastwood & MEMENTO by Christopher Nolan. Both the directors have something in common and something very different. The commonality is the way they pace their movies both directors pace their movie really slowly and do it in a way that it builds on you as you continue to watch the movie. The difference probably lies in the choice of subjects....Clint Eastwood would deal with stories about human relationships whereas Christopher Nolan believes in stories that are intriguing, stories that will confuse and make you watch it again, climax that will leave you with many interpretations....But both are probably living legends and according to me one of the best directors world has ever seen.....
Coming to my interpretation of the movies....GranTorino was a simple story of an old man who was lonely, afraid of himself and was just about carrying on till he meets his Korean neighbors and certain events make him start believing in relationships once again....This is my interpretation but really it will be very interesting to see how Clint Eastwood visualised his own movie....

Memento on the other hand is a really intriguing movie which intially will confuse you to figure out whats happenning as the movie keeps going back and forward and that is the way screenplay and it keeps playing several sets of events together in the movie and therefore you do not figure out whats happenning till the end....The movie in a nutshell is about a guy who has a problem of short term memory loss and is in search of his wife's murderer.....Like all Chirstopher Nolan movies Memento too leaves you with many interpretations and will force you to watch it again to completely figure out whats happenning....His movies are just a treat to watch.....

Interestingly 'GHAJINI' was inspired by Memento but clearly unlike Memento GHAJINI was quite straight forward a story....I wonder what would have happened if it was a complete remake....Would Indian audience have dumped it because in India we like simple straight forward stuff not something that is complex....

If any of you have not seen these two movies please watch it...they are worth it....
